The Lundy Stamps Catalogue 1998 by Anders Backman
ver Lundy1998:1.00.A
During this period the air transports were introduced, both of people and goods, including mail.
Special airmail stamps were issued, although it was not at first realized that they actually were stamps, as they were printed as ticket in rolls with serial numbers, gummed. The airmail stamps were used in addition to the refular Lundy stamps. These airmails were later given the nickname "Tramtickets".
The operating airline was first named Atlantic Coast Air Services (ACAS). The company was later renamed to Lundy & Atlantic Coasts Airlines Ltd. (LACAL) as Mr. F. W. Gade, Postmaster on Lundy, signed as one of the company Directors.
The airmail stamps were actually issued by the airline company, but are generally regarded as Lundy stamps, and often referred to as LACALs.
Mr F. W. Gade, Lundy Postmaster for decades, writes: "... the bulk of the mails were carried to and from Lundy by air until the suspension of civil flying on the outbreak of war on September 2nd 1939".
